Action by the Bündnis Bahn für Alle regarding the Deutsche Bahn annual press conference in Frankfurt am Main in March 2014

Bahn für Alle is a network of 20 organizations made up of globalization critics , environmental protection organizations and trade unions and advocates that the railways remain in the possession of the public sector, which is controlled and managed by the state as owner. As an informal association without legal status, there is no board or similar body; Since 2019, the association has been formally sponsored by the community of common property .

History and Development

The alliance was founded in spring 2006. According to the company, the activities include:

  • Education of the population
  • Introducing the general welfare mandate for rail transport from the Basic Law (Article 87e) into the debate
  • Criticism developed in the SPD against capital privatization (resolutions of five state party conferences against the "rail privatization")
  • Attract media attention, for example by hanging a banner from Berlin Central Station and symbolic rail auctions
  • Spread the flyer your travel plan

The work of the alliance is financed by donations and expenses from the sponsors.

The alliance also supported the documentary film Bahn unterm Hammer , published in 2007 .

Until 2008, the alliance was able to coordinate its campaign full-time. Stefan Diefenbach-Trommer was employed as a campaigner and press officer until summer 2008 . The work of the alliance has helped to prevent the sale of shares in DB AG. The alliance has not had its own employees since the end of 2008, but alliance organizations contribute their resources.

Structure and members

The partners of the alliance are:

Alternative Deutsche Bahn annual reports

For several years now, the association has been presenting an alternative annual report at the same time as the Deutsche Bahn annual press conference. In it, the alliance assesses the development of Deutsche Bahn critically and points out, among other things, the high need for subsidies in several business areas as well as the negative consequences of profit orientation for passengers.

The last edition of the Alternative Annual Report appeared in 2019 for the 2018 financial year of Deutsche Bahn AG under the title 25 Years of Railway Reform.

Relationship with other organizations

The alliance is polarizing with its position critical of privatization: The two large trade unions responsible for the employees of Deutsche Bahn ( EVG , GDL ) do not support the alliance, but the two largest German unions Ver.di and IG-Metall and the food-enjoyment union do. Restaurants (NGG). The Pro Bahn passenger association is divided: While the state associations Berlin-Brandenburg and Hesse are members of the alliance and other state associations sympathize, other forces in the association criticize the alliance as ideological.
