Railway depot Neu-Ulm

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Neu-Ulm depot (abbreviated: Bw Neu-Ulm ) is a former depot in the Bavarian major district town of Neu-Ulm . It was located next to the Neu-Ulm train station and existed from 1871 to 1965. It belonged to the Oberbahnamt Augsburg until 1906 , from then to the Augsburg Railway Directorate .

history

On September 26, 1853, the Bavarian Maximiliansbahn reached the city of Neu-Ulm and the Neu-Ulm train station was built. With the completion of the Danube bridge between Ulm and Neu-Ulm, the Royal Bavarian State Railways were finally able to put the entire Maximilian Railway from Munich via Augsburg to Ulm into operation on May 1, 1854 . For the locomotives and wagons of the Bavarian State Railways, a separate depot was built at Ulm station . Since the capacity of the Bavarian depot in Ulm was no longer sufficient due to the increase in traffic on the Bavarian Maximiliansbahn and the opening of the Illertalbahn from Neu-Ulm to Kempten on October 12, 1862, it was decided in 1868 to set up a separate depot in Neu-Ulm . On February 15, 1871, the Royal Bavarian State Railways put the Neu-Ulm depot, which consisted of two round sheds, a water house and a workshop, into operation in the south of the Neu-Ulm station. A long rectangular hall was built to repair the car. The locomotives of the Bavarian Maximiliansbahn and the Illertalbahn were then moved to Neu-Ulm. Since the trains from Bavaria continued to run to Ulm, 37 empty locomotive runs were initially carried out between Ulm and Neu-Ulm every day. On June 27, 1902, a new 18-meter-long turntable with a load capacity of 120 tons was put into operation to enable larger steam locomotives to enter the building.

During the Second World War, the depot was badly damaged in an air raid on March 4, 1945, and 16 steam locomotives were also damaged, but after the reconstruction it was returned to its previous duties. On January 1, 1961, the steam locomotives were to Bw Ulm RBF and electric locomotives of the series E 44 and E 94 for Bw Augsburg laid, was dissolved after which the workshop. The depot, now only used for personnel deployment, was finally closed on September 1, 1965 and the technical facilities dismantled. The carriage hall and the administration and social building were preserved and were demolished in 2000 for the Neu-Ulm 21 project , in which the Neu-Ulm train station was moved to a trough until 2007.
