The station hotel in Buchen (Odenwald) , a town in the Neckar-Odenwald district in Baden-Württemberg , was built in 1905. The former hotel building , Eisenbahnstraße 1, opposite the station building on today's Seckach – Miltenberg railway line is a protected cultural monument .

history

The builder of the hotel was Peter Zimmermann (* 1863 - March 21, 1936), who came from a farm in Wagenschwend . Zimmermann leased the Engel Gasthaus in Buchen and he was able to develop agriculture by leasing and buying farmland. Since the Seckach- Buchen- Walldürn railway line was opened in 1887 , Zimmermann came up with the idea of building a hotel diagonally across from the station building directly adjacent to the "Imperial Post Office" (built in 1887/88) in order to offer rail travelers attractive accommodation to offer. The hotel was run by the family and, after the death of Peter Zimmermann, was run by his son Fritz (1894–1977), who had attended a higher technical college for hotel employees in Frankfurt am Main. After his death in 1977 the hotel was permanently closed. Apartments and a shop were later set up there.

architecture

The three-storey plastered stone building in neo -Gothic style has an asymmetrical structure with half-timbered - knee-high and corner bay windows . The balconies still have their original Art Nouveau grilles . The roofing of the restaurant terrace has also been preserved.
