The station Annaberg-Buchholz unt Bf was put into operation on February 1, 1866 as the end point of the Chemnitz-Annaberger Bahn as Annaberg station . A continuation of the railway line over the Ore Mountains to Bohemia was already planned at this time. The Weipert – Annaberg railway was finally opened on August 3, 1872, where there was a connection to the Komotau – Weipert railway , which had opened two days earlier. With the opening of the Königswalde ob Bf – Annaberg railway line used for freight traffic , the city of Annaberg received a second station in the city area on August 1, 1906 with Annaberg i Erzgeb loading point . After this was elevated to a freight yard on December 1, 1922, the former loading point was named Annaberg (Erzgeb) ob Bf and the station in the Sehma valley was named Annaberg (Erzgeb) unt Bf .

The Annaberg (Erzgeb) unt Bf station had high-rise buildings next to the reception building with a toilet, a goods shed, platform scales, residential buildings, a post office building, a loading street, car bodies and two signal boxes. The station had eleven tracks. After the unification of the cities of Annaberg and Buchholz to form the city of Annaberg-Buchholz in 1945, all stations in the city area were renamed four years later. The Annaberg train station in the Sehma valley has been called Annaberg-Buchholz unt Bf since September 1, 1949 .

On October 27, 1987, the EZMG signal box was put into operation with the abandonment of signal boxes 1 and 2. On May 19, 2005 the signal box was abandoned. On July 1, 1993, the railway maintenance office was dissolved. The freight shed was demolished in September 2005. The once extensive facilities at the station were dismantled in 2006 as part of the route renovation except for two main tracks. Today there is a supermarket on the site of the freight yard. In 2007 an electronic signal box went into operation in Annaberg-Buchholz. Since then, all train operations on the railway line in the Zschopau and Sehmatal valleys have been controlled from Annaberg-Buchholz.

Since 2001, the two railway lines touching Annaberg-Buchholz and Bf have been part of the DB Regional Network Erzgebirgsbahn . The trains run almost every hour on weekdays from Chemnitz main station to Cranzahl station , where there is a connection to the narrow-gauge Fichtelbergbahn to Oberwiesenthal and in seasonal traffic over the upper section of the Vejprty – Annaberg-Buchholz railway line to Vejprty station and the Chomutov – Vejprty to Chomutov line . The Annaberg Buchholz station is also the start and end point of the Erzgebirge observation track to Schwarzenberg station (Erzgeb) , which has existed since 2009 and runs on the Annaberg-Buchholz-Schwarzenberg line , on which scheduled rail traffic was discontinued in 1997.
