The Federico Lacroze Station ( Spanish Estación Federico Lacroze ) is a long-distance and suburban train station in the Chacarita district of the Argentine capital Buenos Aires . The terminus, opened in 1957, is located at the intersection of Avenida Corrientes and Avenida Federico Lacroze . An underground station of the same name has been located next to the station since 1930 . The station is the starting point of the only regular-gauge main line in the greater Buenos Aires area, the systems are electrified for suburban traffic with power rails painted from above.

history

The origin of today's station is closely linked to the history of Ferrocarril General Urquiza . This originated from the horse-drawn tram company Compania de Tranvias Lacroze between Medrano (today Almagro ) and Pilar in the north of Buenos Aires, founded by the entrepreneur Federico Lacroze . From 1891 steam locomotives were used on the route, from 1912 the company was called Ferrocarril Central de Buenos Aires . In 1947, the Argentine President Juan Perón nationalized all railways and gave all railway lines names of various Argentine national heroes. The Ferrocarril Central has since been called Ferrocarril General Urquiza , named after Justo José de Urquiza , former President of Argentina. The standard gauge network of Ferrocarril General Urquiza, whose southernmost point was the capital Buenos Aires, opened up the Argentine region of Mesopotamia with the provinces of Entre Ríos and Corrientes and offered connections to Uruguay and Paraguay .

In the course of nationalization, the Ministry of Public Buildings ( Ministerio de Obras Públicas ) decided in 1951 to build a new terminus for Ferrocarril General Urquiza at the intersection of Avenida Corrientes and Avenida Federico Lacroze in the Chacarita district . The new station, a sober low-rise building, was opened in 1957 after six years of construction. He has four tongue platforms and an outdoor platform, also a direct transition to the neighboring metro station was Federico Lacroze of Subte -line created B.

Suburban platforms with an arriving train from General Lemos

Today the station serves as the starting point of the Línea Urquiza , a suburban railway line to General Lomos ( partido San Miguel ). This has been operated by Metrovías on behalf of the state since the Argentine rail network was privatized . The trains run every ten minutes on working days and a little less frequently on weekends. Until 2012, the private transport company Trenes Especiales Argentinos operated the weekly El Gran Capitán long-distance train to Posadas in the northern Argentine province of Misiones ; the journey took about 26 to 27 hours. The main line has since been out of service from Rubén Darío station in the municipality of Hurlingham, the suburban line to General Lemos is thus isolated from the rest of the regular gauge network and has become functionally an island operation . For maintenance purposes, however, there is a track connection to line B of the subway, which was essentially built according to similar standards.
