The Großauheim (Kr Hanau) Bahnhof is a stop on the railway line Frankfurt South Aschaffenburg and serves the Hanau district Großauheim .

history

The stop was created in the course of the expansion of the line between Frankfurt and Hanau by the Frankfurt-Hanauer Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft , when it was extended by 8.9 km to the Bavarian border in 1854 and connected to the Ludwigs-West-Bahn coming from Aschaffenburg . Originally a train station, the track system was dismantled to a stopping point, so that only the two main tracks are left here.

Reception building

The present reception building of the Großauheim train station dates from around 1870. It is a three-storey classicist type building that is clad with red sandstone . The building got its current shape in 1916 when the waiting rooms were made smaller and a new entrance was built. Two goods sheds are attached. The reception building and the south-eastern freight shed made of brick framework from around 1880 are cultural monuments according to the Hessian Monument Protection Act . The goods sheds are now used outside the railroad and the somewhat neglected reception building has hardly any service facilities for travelers.

meaning

The Großauheim train station is of little importance for traffic. Two local transport lines stop here: The regional trains on the connection Frankfurt (Main) Süd - Aschaffenburg Hbf - Laufach and between Hanau Hbf and Schöllkrippen ( Kahlgrundbahn ). It is also of little importance in the inner-city traffic of Hanau, since the main train station is also far away from the city center. Local traffic is handled by the railway bus line 566 (Aschaffenburg / Kahl – Hanau) and Hanauer Straßenbahn AG. The latter serves large parts of the Großauheim urban area with two bus routes. None of the bus lines go directly to Großauheim train station, the respective stops are a few streets away (Bahnhofstrasse line 566).

Each of the two tracks has a platform . The main platform (track 1) is assigned to the track in the direction of Aschaffenburg , and the central platform (track 2) to the track in the direction of Hanau, which is only accessible to passengers by crossing the track in the opposite direction.

In terms of urban planning , the station is in an unfavorable location. At the time of construction it was on the outskirts of the former village of Großauheim, today it has "grown in" from the development. At both ends of the railway station, busy inner-city streets cross the busy railway line with level crossings . A solution to this unsatisfactory situation has been discussed again and again for decades, but has not yet led to any result.
