Railway stations in Baden-Württemberg |
The station Lorch (Württ) located at kilometer 39.9 of the Rems Railway . It is served by regional trains.
history
Planning and construction
The citizens of Lorch enthusiastically received the news that the Royal Württemberg State Railroad wanted to build a railway line from Cannstatt to Wasseralfingen . But this brought difficulties for the market town. The Rems valley was particularly closely built up here, so that the route ran right through the village. Even buildings had to give way - including the post office and the summit inn . The state railway set up four crossings: on Stuttgarter Strasse, Haldenbergstrasse, Friedrichstrasse and Karlsplatz.
In order to avoid obstructing the train traffic during floods, the Aimersbach was straightened .
The state railway equipped the station with a two-story station building made of sandstone. It also housed the post office. There was a goods shed to the east. The railway system had a through, a crossing and a timber loading track. Another track led to the goods shed.
Opening and upswing for the city of Lorch
On July 25, 1861, the state railway opened the Remsthalbahn and Lorch experienced the upswing that had been hoped for. On June 22, 1865, King Charles I granted the municipality city rights. The young city, which made a name for itself as a climatic health resort in the 19th century, welcomed many guests and day trippers with the new means of transport. From May 16, 1876, a stagecoach carried travelers via Pfahlbronn to Welzheim and back. The post later extended the line to Murrhardt .
The pasta factory of the Daiber brothers was the first industrial company to begin production in 1876 with three workers. The Zeitter brothers' metal processing factory was added in 1890 . Lorch soon outstripped the seat of the Oberamt Welzheim in terms of population and assumed the position of the largest town in the district.
Expansion of the station
On October 23, 1891, the post office left the station building and moved into the former upper office building (now the town hall) in the center of the village. The state railway had the station building expanded to include a one-story extension to the east.
To make it easier to differentiate, the station was later given the name Lorch (Württ) . A rarity is that the state railway itself added the new name suffix (WÜRTT) to the lettering LORCH , carved into the sandstone , on the gable end of the reception building . Letters and characters were painted in black. The area around it was painted white.
On October 22, 1902, the state railway completed the double-track expansion between Schorndorf and Lorch. The railway system was also expanded. The state railway put a new timber loading point and two signal boxes into operation. A water station was added to relieve the Gmünd train station .
Since 1904 a road bridge, the summit bridge, spanned the tracks east of the station. With a span of 20 meters, this reinforced concrete bridge was the largest bridge of its kind in the Kingdom of Württemberg to date .
Electrification, modernization and dismantling
From 1970 the station was modernized. For the upcoming electrification, the old summit bridge had to be replaced by a new building. The German Federal Railroad closed all level crossings and on September 26, 1971, electrical operations between Schorndorf and Aalen began .
In the 1980s and 1990s, it equipped the station with an underpass that opened on October 31, 1987, and reduced the size of the railway facilities to two through tracks and a freight track (which has since been dismantled).
After the goods shed was demolished, the city administration had parking spaces built in its place.
The sale of tickets via an agency located in the train station ceased on June 30, 2015.
Rail operations
The station is served by regional trains. The trains in the direction of Schwäbisch Gmünd stop on track 1, on the house platform, and on track 2 in the direction of Schorndorf.
The Lorch station corresponds, according to the Deutsche Bahn AG of Bahnhof Category fifth
The station has on its eastern as well as western side transitions that allow the main platform in both directions for turning to use of trains. However, this option is only used in the event of operational disruptions. The points have been equipped with point heating systems since the end of 2011 .
