The Lutterbach station ( French Gare de Lutterbach , also known as Lutterbach Gare on the Mulhouse tram ) is a separation station in the Upper Alsatian town of Lutterbach . The station is located at 102.5 km on the Strasbourg – Basel line and is the starting point for the Lutterbach – Kruth and Lutterbach – Rixheim lines . In addition to the TER Alsace regional trains, Lutterbach station is also a stop for the Mulhouse – Vallée de la Thur tram train and the terminus of line 3 of the Mulhouse tram.

history

The Lutterbach station was opened with the commissioning of the third Lutterbach – Kruth railway line opened for passenger traffic in France . The Lutterbach – Thann section was put into operation on September 1, 1839 and financed by the region's industry. The Thann– Wesserling section followed on November 25, 1863 and the remaining section to Kruth was not opened until January 2, 1905.

With the opening of the section from Colmar to Mulhouse of the railway line leading from Strasbourg to Basel on August 15, 1841 by the Compagnie du chemin de fer de Strasbourg à Bâle (StB), the Lutterbach station became a railway junction .

From August 15, 1841 to May 31, 1842, up to 12,124 passengers were handled at Lutterbach station and tickets were sold for a total of CHF 12,783.45. In addition, a total of 185.45 francs was paid for goods and luggage.

The 3.79 km long section from Lutterbach to Mulhouse-Nord of the Lutterbach – Rixheim railway line , now also known as the Mulhouse freight bypass , was opened on November 1, 1885. Almost 15 years later this route was extended by 7 km to Rixheim on May 1st, 1899 . Today this route is only used for freight traffic .

For the 2010/2011 timetable change on December 12, 2010, the Mulhouse – Vallée de la Thur tram-train , a dual-system regional light rail system based on the Karlsruhe model , went into operation. For this purpose, a four-kilometer-long, partly single-track tram line was built between the Lutterbach train station and the Mulhouse Zu Rhein light rail station, parallel to the main railway line from Mulhouse to Colmar , which joins the existing route of tram line 2 and thus the Mulhouse tram network at the Stricker roundabout . At the same time as the opening of the tram train between Mulhouse and Thann im Thurtal , the new tram line 3 went into operation, which also uses the tram train route to Lutterbach station.

traffic

Lutterbach station is mainly served by the Mulhouse – Vallée de la Thur tram-train, which runs every half hour on weekdays and Saturdays and every hour on Sundays and public holidays. On the Lutterbach – Hauptbahnhof section, tram line 3 condenses the tram train to 15-minute intervals on weekdays, and to 30-minute intervals on Sundays and public holidays.

During rush hour on working days, individual TERs condense the Tram-Train timetable in order to establish connections to other TERs in Mulhouse Ville. These trains run from the mainline part of the station (tracks A to C), while the tram-train and line 3 stop at the light rail part of the station (tracks D and E).

Occasionally, TER Alsace regional trains on the Strasbourg - Sélestat - Colmar - Mulhouse (- Basel ) route also stop in Lutterbach, but most of them pass the station without stopping.

Connection

In addition to the TER Alsace regional trains, the Mulhouse – Vallée de la Thur tram train and tram line 3, bus line 17 also stops at Lutterbacher Bahnhof.
