The Neukieritzsch Station is an operating agency of the Leipzig-Hof railway and the branching here Neukieritzsch-Chemnitz railway in the municipality of Neukieritzsch in Saxony . From 1909 to 1999, the Neukieritzsch – Pegau railway line, which has now been dismantled, had its starting point here. The reception building is a listed building.

location

The station is on route kilometers 21,128 of the main line Leipzig – Hof . It is the starting point for another main line to Chemnitz . On this route, the train station is at 0.323 km. In addition, from 1909 to 1999 another route to Pegau began in Neukieritzsch at kilometer 0.0.

It is located about 200 meters east of the center of Neukieritzsch in its current dimensions and borders on Bundesstraße 176 (Bornaer Straße) and Bahnhofstraße .

The Böhlen Werke and Deutzen stops are the neighboring stations on the Leipzig-Hofer Bahn . Both are about four kilometers away. On the Chemnitz route, this is the Lobstädt stop , three and a half kilometers away. The next station on the dismantled route to Pegau was the Droßdorf stop , which was about three and a half kilometers from Neukieritzsch station.

history

At the beginning of the 1840s, construction of the Leipzig – Hof line began . In 1842 the line between Leipzig and Altenburg was completed. On September 19 of the same year, a stop in the middle of an undeveloped area went into operation. This affected both passenger and freight traffic. The stop was needed to refill locomotives with water and coal. On the day of commissioning, the first train arrived at 9:00 a.m. This led 25 cars and transported 500 people. A crowd greeted the train at the decorated stop. At this point in time there was no place associated with the breakpoint. But there was already a state road. It began in Leipzig, led via Zwenkau and Borna to Altenburg. This street was renewed during the construction of the railway. Their course has also changed. Coming from Zwenkau, she crossed the track at a right angle in the area of the stop. Thus, the prerequisites for the handling of goods from rail to road were given.

A settlement developed around the breakpoint. At first, a coal shed, goods shed, a water house and a workshop were built. An inn was built in the area in 1842. A brick factory, construction companies and the first residential buildings were also added.

Although located on the Pürsten corridor , the station was named after the town of Kieritzsch, two kilometers to the northwest . Only after the formation of the Neukieritzsch community in November 1935 was the station given its name on October 4, 1936.

Reception building (2012)

On January 14, 1867, the line to Borna went into operation. A station building with a train station restaurant was built. Different dates existed for the year of construction of the building. There is talk of 1863 and 1885. According to an article in the Leipziger Volkszeitung , it is considered unknown. In 1907 or 1910 a people tunnel and a bridge over the tracks were built. In 1907 the freight yard also went into operation. When the line to Pegau was commissioned in 1909, another line was added. Neukieritzsch thus developed into a railway junction. In 1949 this line was dismantled. It was rebuilt in 1957. In the course of the electrification of the Leipzig – Hof line, which took place in 1962, the bridge was replaced by a new building. In 1971 another bridge was built due to road relocation and the closure of the bridge in 1962. In 1973 the tunnel was expanded. The bridge was demolished in 1962 in 1994. Since December 31 of the same year there has been no more freight traffic at Neukieritzsch Bahnhof. The line to Pegau was dismantled in 1997.

Neukieritzsch has been served by the S-Bahn Central Germany since December 15, 2013 , initially with the S4 Hoyerswerda – Leipzig – Geithain and S5 Leipzig / Halle – Leipzig – Zwickau lines, and since December 2015 with the S3 Halle-Trotha – Leipzig– lines. Geithain and S5 Halle – Leipzig – Zwickau, since December 2017 with the S6 Leipzig Messe – Leipzig – Geithain and S5 Halle – Leipzig – Zwickau lines. Several local bus lines serve the station and connect it with the center of Neukieritzsch as well as with Pegau , Borna and Geithain .

Investments

Platforms and tracks

The station currently has four platform tracks. There is a central platform , a house platform and an outside platform . All platforms have a usable length of 135 meters with a system height of 38 cm above the top of the rails.

In the period from 2020 to 2023, it is planned to renew the platforms. You get a uniform height of 55 centimeters and a length of 155 meters, with the option to extend to 170 meters, as well as elevators. Noise barriers should also be built.

The track plans (approx. 1960 to 1990) always show more than 20 tracks and two loading lanes.

Signal boxes

In the course of time, the following additional signal boxes were built . Lines with a red background mean that the signal box is out of operation.

Between 2020 and 2023, all four signal boxes are to be decommissioned, demolished and replaced by an electronic signal box .

Sidings

The Breunsdorf lignite plant received a siding in 1905. In 1930 it ceased operations. On track plans, which can be dated between the 1960s and 1980s, two siding “Lanzendorf Family” and “Baggermontageplatz” can be seen.

Other plants

The following buildings still existed (year of construction in brackets):

There was also a railway maintenance depot , which was demolished in 1974.
