The Neustadt (Waldnaab) station is an operating point of the Weiden – Oberkotzau railway line and the Neustadt (Waldnaab) –Eslarn railway line branching off here in the area of the Altenstadt community in the Neustadt an der Waldnaab district . The tourist facilities on the Neustadt (Waldnaab) –Eslarn railway line were moved closer to the eponymous location in December 2007, and there have been no platforms on the Weiden – Oberkotzau railway line since then.

history

Reception building, street side (2019)

On August 15, 1864, the Weiden – Wiesau line was opened as part of the route to Eger by the Actiengesellschaft der Bavarian Eastern Railways . The train station was in Altenstadt, but the city center of Neustadt on the other side of the Waldnaab was closer to the train station. On October 16, 1886, the first section of the local railway to Eslarn was opened by the Royal Bavarian State Railways from Neustadt an der Waldnaab via Floß to the district office in Vohenstrauss . The station became a wedge station to reach a route south of the city.

The station extends almost exactly in a north-south direction. The route separation was in the south of the station. In 1920 there were in Neustadt, on the Naabtalbahn side, two through tracks and a siding , all with a usable length of 620 m and a platform . To the south of the reception building there was still a siding and the open loading siding . On the branch line in the east there was a main track, a siding and two sidings. The platform was already north of the switches at the height of the reception building, actually more on the station forecourt .

On May 29, 1992, passenger traffic ended on the route to Eslarn , which last only went as far as Floß. Shortly afterwards, on May 28, 1995, freight traffic also ended , only one siding of a glassware factory in the urban area of Neustadt about one kilometer from the train station was still served until December 31, 2001.

Since the station was somewhat remote for both Altenstadt and Neustadt, the Altenstadt stop was opened on December 9, 2007 south of the station . At the same time, the bridge over the Waldnaab , which was completely overhauled in 1984/85, was reactivated on the route to Eslarn and a stop was created in Neustadt , which has a platform edge, but no switch connections. It is located about 200 m before the former St. Felix stop. All tracks in the old Neustadt station on the branch line have been removed.

The side tracks are now also removed from the main railway side, the reception building and the goods shed are still there in 2019.

About 200 m south of the former St. Felix stop on the route to Eslarn, a new access point for tourist traffic was opened on December 9, 2007, which is part of the Neustadt (Waldnaab) train station. The date in Weiden ending regional express trains from Nuremberg main station run since then to get there and apply there. The platform has a usable length of 115 meters and a system height of 550 millimeters above the top of the rails.
