The Odenheim train station is the train station in the Odenheim district of Östringen . It is the end point of the Katzbachbahn, which runs from Bruchsal to Odenheim, and is served by the S31 line of the Karlsruhe Stadtbahn .

history

After various plans since 1888, the Odenheim station was opened on March 5, 1896 as the terminus of the Katzbachbahn from Bruchsal to Odenheim. The route was initially operated by the West German Railway Company (WeEG) .

In the first years of operation, both passenger traffic and freight traffic developed positively, which is why the route originally planned to Elsenz was extended on September 3, 1900 from Odenheim to Hilsbach . In October 1898, the WeEG subsidiary, Badische Lokal Eisenbahn Aktiengesellschaft (BLEAG) , took over the Katzbach and Kraichtalbahn.

In the course of the bankruptcy of BLEAG, the Katzbachbahn was taken over on January 1, 1932 by the Deutsche Eisenbahn-Betriebsgesellschaft AG (DEBG) . The DEBG initially succeeded in moving the two routes that had been affected by the global economic crisis forward again.

The DEBG ceded the line to the Südwestdeutsche Eisenbahngesellschaft mbH (SWEG) on May 1, 1963 .

Odenheim Ost stop in 1986

On January 31, 1975, the Odenheim Ost – Tiefenbach section was closed. The Odenheim Ost stop, which was only set up in 1968 , thus became the new terminus of the Katzbachbahn. On June 1, 1986, the section Odenheim Bahnhof – Odenheim Ost also ended.

Takeover by AVG and expansion into a light rail system (1994–2000)

In order to save both the Katzbach and the neighboring Kraichtalbahn from total closure, the Albtal-Verkehrs-Gesellschaft (AVG) took over both lines from the SWEG in 1994.

After the AVG had taken over the timetable that last existed under the SWEG , it improved it six months later and also introduced a clock timetable . With the takeover by the AVG, it was decided to expand the line to the light rail .

On September 26, 1998, the opening of the light rail service on the Katzbachbahn took place, which was then integrated into the network of the Karlsruhe light rail as line S31.

The Odenheim station was completely rebuilt for light rail operations: The station building was demolished and a wagon hall for the light rail vehicles was built. In addition, the platforms were brought to a height of 55 centimeters and the two tracks in the station were each provided with a buffer stop.

business

The Katzbachbahn is integrated as line S31 ( Odenheim - Bruchsal - Karlsruhe Hbf - Malsch - Rastatt - Forbach (Schwarzw) - Freudenstadt Hbf ) in the Karlsruhe light rail network. Trains that go to Baden-Baden or Achern instead of Forbach / Freudenstadt , change the line number to S32 in Ubstadt Ort . During rush hour , the S31 trains run every 20 minutes, otherwise usually every hour. Two- system light rail vehicles of the type GT8-100C / 2S are used .
