The Quadrath-Ichendorf train station is located at Frenser Straße 11 in Quadrath-Ichendorf in the district town of Bergheim in the Rhein-Erft district . The listed reception building is owned by the district town of Bergheim and was converted from 2016 to 2019 into the Gleis11 culture and integration station with funding from the special urban development program “Aid in urban development for municipalities to integrate refugees”. The development company Bergheim gGmbH has been running this on behalf of the district town since March 2019. Organized by a lot of voluntary commitment by the residents and by the EGBM team, social and cultural events are now taking place here.

Building history and architecture

When the railway line from Horrem to Bedburg, opened in 1897, was moved from the main road in Quadrath-Ichendorf to the edge of the town in 1928 , the Quadrath train station was built. The station consists of the platform and the reception building, which is a listed building. The two-storey brick entrance building shows typical forms of architecture from the period between the two world wars. One also speaks of "brick expressionism".

The facade is symmetrically structured by a central projectile and seven axes. The building has a hipped roof . The risalit looks like a tower. It is led over the eaves and is covered with a pyramid-shaped tent roof. A copper top crowns the top of the tower roof. The entrance is on the ground floor of the risalit. The upper floor is decorated with a diamond mosaic in darker brick material, which is interrupted by a window opening and a station clock. The rear is symmetrically divided into five axes only on the upper floor. The ground floor was given its window layout according to internal needs. Two two-winged windows are connected to a three-winged one by a brick frame, which was given a triangular decorative wall as a surface mosaic above each window. They originally exposed the train station catering. Next to it is the platform access for travelers. A dispatcher’s room with a balcony and brick parapet is built in front. The dormer on the platform side of the mansard roof with its central, triangular edging of the eaves is considered a characteristic expressionist roof detail. On the northern narrow side, the bullet holes of an Allied low-level aircraft fire from the Second World War can still be seen.

monument

The station building is registered with the monument number 221 in the list of architectural monuments in Quadrath-Ichendorf . The description reads:

“2-storey, eaves-standing brick building in 7 axes with a central projection and hipped roof. The street-side facade is symmetrically structured by a risalite. The building, which has three axes on both sides of the risalit, has high rectangular window openings. The final eaves cornice is walled at an angle, with a shadow gap under the protruding rain gutter; this gives the building a roof connection that is typical of the time. The hipped roof shows a charring typical for its construction period . "

Investments

With the exception of the through track and the connecting track to the Martinswerk that branches off here, all other tracks have been shut down and mostly dismantled since the renovation in 2008/09. The platform is located in the location of the former central platform and is designed as a side platform with ground level access, the tracks at the station building are no longer available.
