BW The Rascheid station was the station of the municipality of Rascheid in Rhineland-Palatinate and was located on the Hunsrückquerbahn between Hermeskeil and Langenlonsheim . However, it was 1.5 km from the eponymous municipality, as this was not possible otherwise for topographical reasons.

history

The station was built on October 1, 1903 with the last section of the Hunsrückquerbahn between Morbach and Hermeskeil. In 1986 the last trains rolled through the station.

Station building and station area

The station building corresponds structurally to the architectural style of many similar small station buildings in the Hunsrück . Similar structures can be found in Buchholz , Emmelshausen , Alterkülz, Heddesheim and Hochscheid . It is a half-timbered building with red sandstone ashlar masonry that extends up to the window sills of the upper floor and is partially slated. The high tent roof is loosened up by a risalit gable and enlivened by deep-drawn dormers. However, the stairwell extension is missing. There was an official apartment in the Rascheider station building. Today the station is privately owned and is a listed building .

In 1938 the track system was expanded. At the same time, a single-storey toilet block was added and a signal box with 26 lever positions was set up, which was in operation until 1982. The signal box was dismantled in 1953 on two switch levers.

The passing track was over 400 m long. It was not shortened after 1945 and was still in full length until the late 1980s. During the first wave of dismantling in 1961, the loading track was dismantled. The crossing point in the direction of Geisfeld was noticeable. A goods shed belonged to the station complex.

There used to be a hotel next to the train station, which is now used as a residential building.

The overall conception of the station is considered to be the most complex such concept in the Hunsrück in the Trier-Saarburg district .

The route from Rascheid to the train station was not built at the same time as the train station because the district initially refused to pay for it, although half of the costs were supposed to be covered by the Reich government. Trains only stopped in Rascheid for disembarking passengers. After the Geisfeld viaduct was blown up shortly before the end of the war, Rascheid was also the end of the line.

Today there is a residential area on the station area where three families live. One of the buildings is a holiday home and can be rented.
