The Emmelshausen railway station is the station of the Rhineland-Palatinate town Emmelshausen in the Rhein-Hunsrück district . Since the end of the 20th century Emmelshausen railway station is the terminus of from Boppard coming Hunsrückbahn that used until after Simmern in Hunsrück led.

The station is in the network area of the Rhein-Mosel transport association (VRM). He has a platform track and a platform-less siding . His address is Bahnhofstrasse 5 . The station is a listed building .

history

In 1906 the municipalities of Liesenfeld , Basselscheid and Halsenbach ceded district areas so that the station for the Hunsrück Railway Simmern - Boppard , which opened in 1908, could be built. The houses of the station settlement ("Halsenbach Bahnhof") around the station, which was called Halsenbach when it opened , initially belonged to three different localities. As soon as the line opened, the area around the station developed quite well. It actually developed so well that in 1911 considerable extensions were made to the track system.

In the course of an economic boom in 1935, Halsenbach and Dörth ceded parts of their municipal land and their sovereign rights. The independent municipality of Emmelshausen was created and the Halsenbach train station was renamed Emmelshausen .

Operationally, the Emmelshausen station was run according to driving regulations until 1962 and was equipped with entry signals . The level crossing in the direction of Boppard was secured with two barrier booms, which were closed by hand by the dispatcher .

In the early 1960s, the Saarbrücken Federal Railway Directorate , which was responsible for the station at that time, tried to make its branch lines safer by making further savings . The Emmelshausen – Buchholz section was converted to train control in 1962.

After 1962 two officers remained at Emmelshausen station. At train crossings, the train conductor, who was based in the neighboring Kastellaun, could involve the ticket seller (traffic officer) in the operational process. The level crossings were replaced by new flashing lights in 1988. Despite the new flashing lights, there were always dangerous encounters at the transition to Simmern. After the Emmelshausen – Simmern section was closed, a roundabout was built at this point .

On September 25, 1988, the ticket counter in the reception building was closed.

From August 2008 to February 2009 the route was closed due to construction errors.

For regular contemporary timetable change 2009/2010 on 13 December 2009, should Rhenus Veniro the train services in passenger traffic on the Hunsrückbahn of DB Regio Southwest accept. The regional rail passenger transport association Rhineland-Palatinate North (SPNV Nord) awarded the company the contract in February 2008. Since Rhenus Veniro had still not received approval from the Federal Railway Authority for its new vehicles when the timetable was changed, the DB Regio Südwest route was operated with locomotive- hauled push- pull trains until May 4, 2011 . Since then run railcars of the 650 Series .

After a full renovation of the line in July 2008, the Emmelshausen train station was also rebuilt in the autumn vacation 2010. Two new points were installed and a new platform was built on track 1, the only remaining platform track . The "Jüdel" type signal box at the station entrance from the direction of Boppard lost its function in the course of the renovation work and was taken out of service.

In December 2011 a new flashing light system was put into operation in Emmelshausen.

Station area

The station area grew rapidly after the railway line opened . A mineral water factory opened a mail order company with a rail connection in 1910 , which existed until around 1925. A cement casting plant was also opened in 1914 . This also existed until around 1925. In 1924 a textile production and in 1934 a dairy cooperative was opened at the train station.

In addition, there is the Waldfrieden inn owned by the innkeeper and tinkerer Peter Pies, also opened in 1908 as the “Zum Bahnhof” inn at the station .

Reception building

The reception building of the station Emmelshausen is the usual type 'Small reception building. " In the 1920s, a train station restaurant opened in the waiting room of the reception building. This was not closed again until 1956.

A small signal box is now housed in a small porch of the building. The reception building has now been restored and belongs to the municipality of Emmelshausen, which has a registry office there. The building can also be used for events.

Tracks

After the opening of the railway line, the station had extensive track systems. Three platform tracks were used for train traffic. After the Emmelshausen – Simmern section was closed, track 3 became the main track for all train journeys. The platform on track 2 was removed in 1984.

Since the modernization of the station in October 2010, the station only has one platform track (track 1) and one crossing track (track 2), which are only used in exceptional cases.

platform

The station has a platform with a length of 85 m and the usual height of 55 cm for this route, which offers barrier-free access to the trains that run here.

business

On May 28, 1983, the last train ran in the direction of Simmern.

Today the trains of the remaining Hunsrück Railway run almost every hour between Emmelshausen and Boppard Hbf . Since many schoolchildren from the area around Emmelshausen are dependent on the trains during school hours, the school line was extended to the Boppard Süd stop .
