Emmelshausen is a town in the Rhein-Hunsrück district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Hunsrück-Mittelrhein community and is one of the two administrative offices. Emmelshausen is a state-approved climatic health resort and designated as a basic center according to state planning .

Districts

The districts of Basselscheid, Baunhöllermühle and Liesenfeld belong to Emmelshausen. Liesenfeld is located on the western outskirts of Emmelshausen on Landesstraße 206 (Rhein-Mosel-Straße) in the direction of Gondershausen and forms the oldest core of the city.

history

The first written evidence dates the founding of the Liesenfeld settlement to the 15th century. Already at the end of the 13th century there was a settlement of the same name in the area of Emmelshausen, which was abandoned over time. According to the Trier fire book of 1563 , Emmelshausen was already uninhabited at that time. In the forest east of Emmelshausen was the court of the Gallscheid court . The administrative seat of the court was Schöneck Castle . In 1314 it came from the Reich as pledge to Kurtrier and was no longer redeemed. With the occupation of the left bank of the Rhine by French revolutionary troops in 1794 , the area became French, and in 1815 it was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna .

In 1906 the municipalities of Liesenfeld, Basselscheid and Halsenbach ceded district areas so that the station for the new Hunsrück Railway could be built. The houses of the station settlement around Halsenbach station initially belonged to three different communities. It was not until 1935, when the new settlement had prospered so well , that the towns of Halsenbach and Dörth ceded parts of their municipal areas and their sovereign rights, after a new name had been found (Emmelshausen was the name of a western desert with this name), Emmelshausen became independent. Liesenfeld and Basselscheid were incorporated. In 1920 there were only 20 people living at the train station and around the Waldfrieden inn owned by the innkeeper and bone flicker Peter Pies , when the town was founded there were already 280 people. The expansion of the Koblenz Kastellaun road to Hunsrückhöhenstraße from 1938 onwards continued development.

The community has been part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate since 1946. Due to its convenient location near the A 61, it has developed into a service center for the front Hunsrück .

At the request of the local community of Emmelshausen, the state government of Rhineland-Palatinate decided on September 1, 2009 to give Emmelshausen the designation city . The official award ceremony took place on June 27, 2010.

coat of arms

Emmelshausen coat of arms
Blazon : “Divided and split above by silver and black; in front in a continuous red bar cross, behind a red crowned and armored golden lion, below in red three (2: 1) golden Mercury hats. "
Justification of the coat of arms: The red cross reminds of the former affiliation of Basselscheid, Halsenbach and Dörth to Kurtrier , of the affiliation of Liesenfeld to the former Palatinate-Simmern house of the Palatinate Lion . The three Merkur hats refer to trade and commerce that are run by the vast majority of the people of Emmelshausen.
