Location of Buchholz in Rhineland-Palatinate

Buchholz has been the second largest district in the city of Boppard since 1976 . The location is on the Hunsrück heights on the watershed between the Rhine and Moselle .

history

In 1224 Buchholz was first mentioned in a document under the name Bucholze . The clearing settlement developed about two kilometers west of the road used by the Romans , the Hunsrückhöhenstrasse , which led from Koblenz over the Rhine heights to the south. Until the end of the 18th century, Buchholz belonged to the Gallscheider court , which was part of the Trier district of Boppard.

Two kilometers east of the old town center, the Hunsrück Railway Station was opened in 1908, which gave the town an economic boost.

In the twentieth century, the number of residents grew rapidly. Before 1940 Buchholz had around 600 inhabitants. At the beginning of the 21st century there were already 2,500. The district of Ohlenfeld was created in the 1960s . In the 1970s, the previously undeveloped area between the old town center and the train station was closed by the new Buchholz Mitte development. In 1970 Buchholz became part of the Verbandsgemeinde Boppard, which was converted into an association-free municipality on December 31, 1975. Since 2000, Buchholz has been the fastest growing district in the city of Boppard every year.

traffic

Road traffic

The Buchholz district is located on the A 61 and there is also the next connection point to the German motorway network for the core city of Boppard. In addition, the B 327 , the so-called Hunsrückhöhenstraße , runs through Buchholz .

Buchholz is served by two bus routes between Koblenz and Emmelshausen in some cases as far as Simmern / Hunsrück . These bus routes run every two hours, so that a total of one hour. They do not serve the core city of Boppard. Since Buchholz is connected to the city center by local rail transport, a bus line is only used between the Buchholz district and the city center during rush hour.

Rail transport

In Buchholz there is the Boppard-Buchholz train stop on the Hunsrück Railway . Regional trains run approximately every hour on this single-track, steep stretch between Boppard and Emmelshausen. The stop has a platform with a length of 85 m and the usual height of 55 cm for this route.

The Boppard-Buchholz stop used to be a train station. When it opened in 1908, it had four tracks, a station building and a signal box . With the discontinuation of steam operation, initially with cogwheel locomotives as push locomotives, this effort was no longer necessary. In the 1980s, dismantling began on the entire Hunsrück railway line. In the early 1980s, track 3 of the station was dismantled. On May 28, 1983, the Emmelshausen - Simmern section was closed. For this reason, the station was no longer needed and only continued to operate for two years. In May 1985 this was dismantled to a stopping point (that is, a stop without switches), and a small signal box without local staff opposite the station building replaced the old one. On August 3, 1987, Deutsche Bahn had the station building demolished, although it was to be protected as a historical monument . After the cessation of goods traffic on the Hunsrück Railway, the new signal box was given up in the 1990s. In 1999, Deutsche Bahn had the stop modernized.
