The Reims train station is a railway station in the French city of Reims , in the Marne department .

history

The present station was rebuilt in 1932–1935. The reconstruction is based on plans by Ingénieurs Ridet and was carried out by Entreprises Limousin. The previously built stations in 1860 and 1877 were destroyed (1870) or badly damaged (1917) during military conflicts. A restoration of the facade took place in 1982. In 2002, work began on redesigning the entrance hall.

architecture

The station concourse is spanned by a series of double reinforced concrete arches with a width of 29 m and 35 m. To make cleaning easier, they have been designed in a U shape. The total length of the hall is 105 meters. The incidence of light is ensured by solid glass roofs in the arches. The proportion of glass in the roof area is 67%. The platforms in the hall are protected by awnings 98 meters long and 9 meters wide.

location

The train station in Reims is on the northern edge of the city center. The main facade to the south is open to two urban rooms. on the one hand to the green promenades that lead down to the Porte de Mars (rated as a historical site), on the other hand to the Place Drouet d'Erlon, one of the liveliest squares in the city center, named after Jean-Baptiste Drouet d'Erlon .

To the north of the station is the Clairmarais district.

Traffic importance

The station is served by trains on the TER Picardie and TER Champagne-Ardenne regional express networks . Corail Intercités from Paris to Charleville-Mézières also stopped here until June 2007 .

Since June 10, 2007, the TGV has been running from Paris-Est on the high-speed route LGV Est européenne in the east of France to southwest Germany. Its station is the Champagne-Ardenne TGV station in the municipality of Bezannes, about five kilometers south of the city of Reims. There is a shuttle service between Bezannes and the main train station, which is coordinated with the TGV trains. However, the train station itself also has a direct connection to Paris-Est every 2 hours, because TGVs run from there to Reims, and sometimes further to Charleville-Mézières or Sedan .

The Gare de Reims is a major inner-city and regional bus - hub of Reims (Transport Urbains de Reims) and since April 2011 there is also the 11 km long network of Reims tramway .

Transport links

The station can be reached via regular shuttle trains to and from the Champagne-Ardenne TGV station . They end in Reims at two butt tracks of the regional train station. From the TGV station there are free connections to Paris ( Gare de l'Est ), Strasbourg , Bordeaux , Lille , Rennes and Nantes .
