Railway stations in Saxony-Anhalt |
The Roßlau (Elbe) station is a passenger and freight station in the urban area of Dessau-Roßlau in Saxony-Anhalt and the most important station in the Roßlau district in the north of the Elbe .
investment
The station building is on the east side of the tracks. Track 1 is the main platform at the station building, track 2 is on a side platform , the platform height is 55 cm in each case. They are connected by a people tunnel at the south end, the actual platform tunnel at the north end was demolished in the course of the station renovation and has not yet been rebuilt.
The station is designed as a separation station . To the north of the passenger station, the Roßlau – Falkenberg railway branches off in the form of a track triangle in the northeast of the Trebnitz – Leipzig railway . The formerly important freight yard Roßlau is located on it . It is connected to the other routes by means of connecting curves, but is largely idle today. The Wiesenburg – Roßlau railway ends here .
A siding leads from the passenger station to the Roßlau shipyard in the west .
Immediately south of the Roßlau train station is the railway bridge over the Elbe .
history
As early as 1841, the Berlin-Anhaltische Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft built a first station building in Roßlau when building its main line from Berlin via Wittenberg and Dessau to Köthen. The Dessau – Roßlau – Coswig section was officially opened on August 17, 1841. As early as September 10, 1841, the line was in operation all the way to the Anhalter Bahnhof in Berlin. The cost of the first small building was given as 2169 thalers . In the following year, an extension for a “post-expedition bar” was added.
In 1866, today's main station building was erected and the previous building a little further north was demolished the following year. The track system was then expanded in the 1870s as a result of the continuation of the Anhalt Leopoldsbahn to Magdeburg and the construction of the Wittenberg – Falkenberg railway line . The resulting strong increase in freight traffic - especially for the transport of Upper Silesian hard coal - made the construction of a direct connecting track between the Wittenberg and Zerbst lines necessary; today's "Railway Island" was created within the Gleisdreieck . The foundation of today's freight yard was also laid during this time, and it was opened on October 15, 1877.
In order to enable a continuous connection for passenger traffic between Magdeburg / Zerbst and Coswig / Wittenberg, a second train station (“Roßlau Neue Station”) was built in the western tip of the “Eisenbahninsel” and opened on May 15, 1876. This represented a small improvement for those traveling continuously on the route, but a considerable deterioration for everyone else, as trains on the Zerbst – Dessau route now alternately stopped at the old station or at the new station. As a result, the "New Station" was closed again on October 15, 1883.
The last major renovation of the passenger station took place between 1904 and September 1906. The central platform was laid out and accessed via a pedestrian tunnel, and both platforms were roofed over. The conversion cost 228,000 marks . The freight yard also continued to grow step by step, so it received a large increase in traffic in 1931 as a result of the relocation of shunting traffic from the abandoned Dessau shunting yard.
In 1923 electric train operations could begin , first on the Dessau - Roßlau - Zerbst line. In 1945 the catenary system was dismantled as a reparation payment to the Soviet Union . In 1958, the Roßlau station was reconnected to the electrified route network of the Deutsche Reichsbahn, initially the line from the Roßlau freight yard to Bitterfeld was electrified. In 1974 the route to Zerbst and Magdeburg followed, and in 1985 to Lutherstadt Wittenberg. The catenary last went into operation on the route to Wiesenburg in 1992.
The station building including 1,200 m² of land was auctioned in April 2013.
Reconstruction and modernization
A comprehensive renovation is currently taking place, including a fundamental renovation of the track and overhead line systems of the Roßlau / Dessau railway traffic junction and thus also the systems in Roßlau. The track plan of the station was simplified and an electronic signal box was built. At the passenger station, the covered central platform and track 3 were dismantled, and a new side platform was built on track 2. The edge of the main platform was also renewed.
In the course of the renovation, the northern passenger tunnel was partially demolished, but a planned barrier-free new building has not yet taken place. The latter is now planned for summer 2018, for which a pedestrian overpass with elevators will be built. This work should be completed by 2019 so that the platform on platform 2 will then be barrier-free.
A reconstruction of the freight yard including the integration of the lines from Wittenberg and Wiesenburg is planned for the near future. Work began in 2018 and is expected to be completed by 2022. Among other things, the tracks and overhead lines, the safety technology as well as two railway overpasses and an intersection structure will be renewed. In addition, noise barriers are being built in the vicinity of the local areas. Around 100 million euros are being invested in this.
Transport links
The Roßlau (Elbe) train station offers connections to the northeast to the federal capital Berlin , to the northwest to the state capital Magdeburg, to the east to Lutherstadt Wittenberg and to the south via Dessau to Halle (Saale) and Leipzig . It is served exclusively by regional express trains and regional railways .
On the street side, the train station is accessible through a bus stop, taxi stands, P&R and short-term parking spaces .
