List of train stations in Austria |
The station Seefeld in Tirol is a train station in km 22.427 of the Karwendelbahn . It is located east of the center of Seefeld in Tirol .
history
The Seefeld train station was opened in 1912, like the entire Mittenwaldbahn (called Karwendelbahn in Austria) line. The first reception building was designed by Max von Ferstel similar to the stations on the Semmering Railway . For the 1964 Winter Olympics , the Nordic competitions of which took place in Seefeld, a new station building was built according to plans by Hubert Prachensky . The majority of the spectators were brought to Seefeld by special trains , also at the 1976 Winter Games .
As in 1976, there were ideas for the 2019 Nordic World Ski Championships to move the station underground. Due to the high costs (70 million euros), this idea will not be realized. Instead, the station was modernized by 23 million euros between March 2017 and November 2018: the station was converted to two platforms, each with a useful length of 245 meters (80 meters of which are covered); a park + ride facility with 60 parking spaces was built; the underpass was rebuilt and equipped with two passenger lifts; the station forecourt was redesigned and the pedestrian zone extended to the station entrance. The modernized Seefeld train station was officially opened on December 10, 2018.
Station building
The under monument protection standing Shoo building with a striking pent roof covered. The facade on both the street and the track side is largely glazed. On the east side of the hall there is a mural by Ernst Schroffenegger from 1963, which symbolizes skiing.
Train traffic
The station is primarily used for regional traffic. The S-Bahn Tirol trains from Innsbruck Hauptbahnhof to Scharnitz as well as REX and regional trains from Innsbruck to Garmisch-Partenkirchen or Munich Hauptbahnhof stop here . At times the station is also served by long-distance trains, such as the ICE Karwendel (formerly D-Zug / IC / EC).
