The Neuwirtshaus (Porscheplatz) station (also Neuwirtshaus-Porscheplatz ) is a station in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen in the Stuttgart S-Bahn network . According to the railway building and operating regulations, however, it is not a train station , but a stopping point .

history

The Neuwirtshaus settlement was built in the north of Zuffenhausen between 1933 and 1937 . The Deutsche Reichsbahn set up a stopping point on the Württemberg Black Forest Railway for around 1,500 residents - southeast of the development, at what was then Reichsstrasse 10 . The opening took place on May 22, 1937. The wooden reception building, which no longer exists today, consisted of a service room and a waiting room. From 1932 to 1939 the Reichsbahn expanded the Black Forest Railway between Zuffenhausen and Renningen to two tracks. At the breakpoint, the second track was put into operation on December 1, 1937, and in future it will be used in the direction of Zuffenhausen. On May 15, 1939, the electrical operation between Stuttgart Hbf and Leonberg began with simultaneous integration into the Stuttgart suburban traffic .

After the Second World War, the area on Schwieberdinger Strasse developed into an important industrial location for Stuttgart. As early as 1950, the Porsche KG resettled , which had moved its headquarters to Gmünd in Carinthia during the war . The traffic at the stop increased due to the commuters. The residents of the Neuwirtshaussiedlung tended to use the omnibus after the Stuttgarter Straßenbahnen AG connected the district to their network with a stop on Nordseestrasse.

On June 10, 2001, the station was given the addition of Porscheplatz . In October 2005, construction work began on the new Porsche Museum in the immediate vicinity. The sports car manufacturer called for a renovation of the now unkempt stopping point. Because with the opening of the museum on January 31, 2009, its importance increased permanently. On June 2, 2009, after a six-month renovation period, the modernized stop was officially opened. The German Bahn AG , the city of Stuttgart and the Porsche AG shared the cost equally. Architecturally and in terms of color, the roofs in the area of the stairs and elevators are matched to the museum, which is indicated by an additional sign above the station sign. The lighting is integrated into the walls of the bright underpass, which is also designed in silver. All railings form a contrast with their black color.

outlook

The S-Bahn station is to be made barrier-free by 2030.
