The Dobbiaco Station ( Italian Stazione di Dobbiaco ) is located on the Pustertal railway in the east of South Tyrol .

location

The train station is located at an altitude of 1210  m on the Toblacher Feld , the watershed between Rienz and Drau in the Puster Valley . It is not located in the historic village center of Toblach , but further south beyond the intersection of SS 49 and SS 51 in the district of Neu-Toblach at the entrance to the Höhlenstein valley . The Dobbiaco airport and the former Grand Hotel Dobbiaco , now a cultural center, are in the immediate vicinity of the train station .

history

The station was put into operation in 1871 together with the Pustertalbahn advanced by the Südbahn-Gesellschaft . From 1921 it also served as a separation station between the Pustertalbahn, which ran in an east-west direction, and the Dolomitenbahn , which branched off from Toblach southwards into the Höhlensteintal. In 1962, when the north branch of the Dolomitenbahn was closed, the Toblach station lost this function again.

As part of a complete renovation of the Pustertal Railway , there were also redesigns in Toblach in 2009: the construction work that was carried out included adapted platforms , an underpass and a new entrance.

Buildings

The reception building designed by Wilhelm von Flattich is characterized by its individual characteristics, which differ in their upper-class appearance from the other structures along the Pustertalbahn and must be seen in connection with the nearby Grand Hotel. The reception building has stone cladding made of embossed granite stones and Nagelfluh . The central building is framed by two side wings, which are supplemented on the track side by wooden verandas . Some details in the gable façades were borrowed from the architecture of elegant palazzi. The only modern addition to the existing building is a two-story new building opposite the west wing, which was built in the late 20th century.

The historical buildings, which also include a locomotive depot east of the reception building, have been a listed building since 2004 .

function

Toblach station is served by regional trains from Trenitalia and SAD , which also operate bus connections to the station.
