history

The station opened on May 15, 1973, but was completely replaced in 1992, as construction of the surrounding Rokkeveen district was in full swing. The station had to give way to the new district and be rebuilt next to the Autobahn 12 . A new bridge was built over the motorway, which connects the train station and the two parts of the city separated by the motorway. Although Zoetermeer has more than 120,000 inhabitants, the intercity trains on the route do not stop at the station. This is mainly due to the fact that the capacity of the station with its two tracks is exhausted. An extension to three tracks is planned.
