Railway stations in Rhineland-Palatinate |
The station inch oak is a transshipment terminal (Ubf) at the hunsrückquerbahn . It is located in the Rhineland-Palatinate district of Bernkastel-Wittlich between the villages of Hinzerath and Hochscheid . It bears the abbreviation SHDZ in the operating point directory . From 1989 to 1992, the station was the only transshipment station of the United States Air Forces in Europe (USAFE) for all main bases in Central Europe .
history
The Zolleiche timber loading point, which opened when the Hunsrückquerbahn opened in 1908, was used to load forest products until 1961. Remnants of a signal box suggest that the loading point temporarily also served as a train station or a block . Until 1953, the loading point was operated as a restricted journey from the neighboring Hochscheid or Hinzerath stations. At the beginning of 1954, the two existing safety points were replaced by track barriers . At the same time, the train control operation was introduced and trapezoidal boards were set up as cover signals . The operation took place through the daily delivery trip to Morbach. In 1961 the history of the Zolleiche loading point ended for the time being with the dismantling of all switches.
In the 1980s, NATO needed new loading facilities to supply the nearby Hahn Air Base and the US ammunition depot in Niedersachsen . The Zolleiche loading point was reactivated as a train station. In 1988, a forest area of 2.5 hectares was cleared along the railway line and a lane to the federal highway 50 was cut . The access was adapted to the needs and designed for high loads. The 640 m long and 25 m wide transhipment area was also paved with composite stones.
The infrastructure of the loading point shows a design without any kind of ramps and canting. The flat and paved surface parallel to the loading tracks has no stationary loading aids. Vehicles can only be loaded and unloaded with the help of additional mobile auxiliary equipment.
A 680 meter long second track was laid in the area of the transshipment point, it was secured with protective switches and also served as a siding. A retention device for substances hazardous to water and a floodlight system were installed. At the end of January 1989 the construction work was completed, the handover to the US Air Force took place in February 1989. The facility was under the control of the 50th Ammunitions Supply Squadron of USAFE, which also looked after the US ammunition depot at Lessath.
The high point of activities was the loading of ammunition in the First Gulf War in 1991. Until 1992, the facility was used extensively by the military.
The forestry discovered the new loading option again. Forest products were loaded at Zolleiche station until the end of freight traffic. From 2001 to 2009 the route and thus the station was closed.
The system is still in good condition in 2008 and since 2009 the section of the Hunsrückquerbahn between Büchenbeuren and Morbach was put back into operation as a tourist railway, a stopping point for visitors to the Belginum archeology park has been set up there.
