history

Former station in Memmelsdorf

The route was first used in 1908. Your passenger traffic was stopped on May 31, 1985, the freight traffic Bruckertshof-Scheßlitz on May 27, 1988. The tracks were dismantled in the winter of the same year to Bruckertshof. The section Bamberg to Bruckertshof was closed on October 31, 2001. Between Bamberg and Memmelsdorf , the embankment is built over by the A 70 / A 73 , but is still clearly recognizable, apart from a few places, because the gravel bed has not been completely removed. A cycle path was built on the route between Memmelsdorf and Scheßlitz. The only remaining station buildings in Memmelsdorf and Scheßlitz are used for other purposes. The station building of Memmelsdorf was extensively restored and rebuilt for 180,000 DM and now houses the local choral society. The station building in Scheßlitz is the storage room of the Scheßlitz local history association.

A planned train connection between Scheßlitz and Hollfeld , the terminus of the Bayreuth – Hollfeld railway line , was abandoned in 1906 after extensive preparatory work, as both locations failed the project. The reason, however, was not the high construction costs (around two million marks), but rather that both cities preferred the lucrative status of terminal stations. The space in between was to become a trading domain. When the "District Council" of the Royal Bavarian District Scheßlitz approved a grant of 70,000 marks for the construction of a Scheßlitz – Hollfeld line, the city of Scheßlitz demanded the grant of 50,000 marks for the Bamberg – Scheßlitz railway construction when the line went to Hollfeld should be built.

The operation on the route was limited. In 1944 four pairs of passenger trains ran daily .
