The Chodov – Nová Role railway is a regional railway connection in the Czech Republic that was originally built and operated by the Austrian Local Railway Company (ÖLEG) as part of the Chodau – Neudek local railway . It runs in northwestern Bohemia from Chodov ( Chodau ) to Nová Role ( Neurohlau ).

According to a decree of the Czech government, the line has been classified as a regional railway ("regionální dráha") since December 20, 1995.

history

The concession to build the Chodau – Neudek local railway was awarded to the ÖLEG on September 8, 1880. It was opened on October 2, 1881 for freight traffic and on December 20, 1881 for passenger traffic. After the nationalization of the ÖLEG on January 1, 1894, the line was transferred to the kk Staatsbahnen (kkStB). The kkStB finally assigned the section between Neurohlau and Neudek to the Karlsbad – Johanngeorgenstadt line, which was opened in 1899 .

After the First World War, the newly founded Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD) took the place of the kkStB . The first ČSD timetable from 1919 recorded only five train journeys on the entire route. Some of the trains were also tied to and from Neudek.

After the Sudetenland was annexed to Germany in autumn 1938, the line came to the Deutsche Reichsbahn , Reichsbahndirektion Dresden . The connection was now included in the Reichskursbuch as route book route 171f Schwarzenberg (Erzgeb) –Neu Rohlau – Chodau / Karlsbad . After the Second World War, the line came back to the ČSD.

On January 1, 1993, the line was transferred to the newly founded České dráhy (ČD) in the course of the dissolution of Czechoslovakia .

Due to the social upheaval as a result of the Velvet Revolution , there was a sharp decline in traffic after 1990. In the 1995/96 annual timetable, the timetable still included five pairs of passenger trains running daily. Another was added on working days for rush hour traffic. In 2011, on the other hand, there was only one pair of passenger trains in the weekday rush hour, which was tied to and from Loket předměstí. The 2014/2015 annual timetable lists two pairs of trains on weekdays that run northwards from Nové Sedlo u Lokte and southwards to Loket.

Nowadays only two pairs of trains run between Chodov and Nová Role on weekdays. The morning train pair travels, like the pair at noon, from Loket via Nové Sedlo u Loket and Chodov to Nová Role. On the way back, the afternoon train even goes to Loket předměstí.
