The Haidhof – Burglengenfeld line is a branch line in Bavaria . It runs from the main route Regensburg – Weiden to the former district town of Burglengenfeld an der Naab.

history

The construction of the railways in the 19th century led to a noticeable revival of the iron industry in the Upper Palatinate. This is how the Maximilianshütte ironworks, which primarily produced railway tracks, was built near Haidhof in the Burglengenfeld district office. Since August 5, 1869, the company had its own rail connection to the main line Nuremberg – Schwandorf – Regensburg, which had been opened ten years earlier by the AG der Bayerische Ostbahnen .

Nevertheless, it took another thirty years before the line to Burglengenfeld was extended and opened to general traffic on September 25, 1899 by the Bavarian State Railways .

In the summer of 1914 six pairs of passenger trains ran on the route that crossed the Naab near Burglengenfeld, and in 1939 there were eight (seven on Sundays); In 1950 the number had even risen to ten, including several railcars, two pairs of which drove from Regensburg to Burglengenfeld and back. But in the years that followed, more and more train journeys were replaced by buses and rail passenger traffic was discontinued on February 1, 1967. The Haidhof train station was renamed Maxhütte-Haidhof. Freight traffic will continue to be served along the entire route.

In autumn 2014 it became known that DB Netz AG was selling the route for around 168,000 euros or leasing it for a little more than 13,400 euros per year. In the fall of 2015, the PRO-Städtedreiecksbahn initiative was founded with the aim of reactivating the route for passenger traffic. A “Stadt-Umlandbahn Regensburg” with the terminus Burglengenfeld and Langquaid is discussed.

In 2016, HeidelbergCement was the only connection to buy the route. On March 18, 2018, this was handed over by the Bavarian Minister of Transport to the Bavarian Regional Railway (BRE), a subsidiary of the German Regional Railway (DRE), which has been operating the route as a railway infrastructure company since April 1, 2018 under the name Zementbahn .

In August 2020 it became known that a passenger potential forecast carried out by the Bavarian Railway Company would reach over 1000 passengers per working day. This enables the route to be reactivated for local public transport.

Reactivation of the route

The following is a chronology of the current reactivation attempt:
