Bavarian regional railway

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Bavarian regional railway GmbH (BRE) is a subsidiary of German regional railway GmbH (DRE), based in Schwarzenbach an der Saale , the most since 2004 as a railway infrastructure company operates. The primary goal is to prevent the closure and subsequent de-dedication of railway lines in the area. This is done either by concluding train path security contracts with the previous owner DB Netz or by taking over the routes by means of a lease or purchase agreement .

The following routes with a total length of 83 kilometers are operated by BRE in Bavaria and, since 2012, also in Saxony-Anhalt :

history

After the Gochsheim – Kitzingen-Etwashausen (Lower Franconian Steigerwaldbahn) line had to be closed in March 2010 due to deficiencies in the upper construction, and the responsible supervisory authority for the Central Franconia district of the BRE set an extended deadline until the end of April 2011 to put the line in a safe condition, it imposed for the first time a fine against the route operator. This was only able to restore trafficability at the end of May 2011. However, since there was a lack of income and negotiations with potential interested parties failed, the route has been closed in sections since 2013. After the Bavarian Ministry of the Interior issued the closure notice for the entire route at the beginning of January 2016, BRE returned its section of the route to DB Netz on February 10th.

On July 26, 2012, BRE leased a line outside of Bavaria for the first time with the Saxony-Anhalt railway line Köthen – Aken . No local staff is used, so the level crossings have to be secured by train staff. The route is used for freight traffic to the port of Aken and for special trips.

After the DRE took over the Zeitz - Tröglitz section of the Zeitz-Altenburg Railway on April 12, 2013 to continue serving the Zeitz chemical and industrial park , it is now operated by the BRE as the second line in Saxony-Anhalt. As early as June 5, this route became impassable when the 2013 flood severely damaged two pillars of the railway bridge over the White Elster . As a result, three companies in the chemical and industrial park could no longer be served, so BRE took over the Tröglitz – Meuselwitz line from DB-Netz. After a short-term repair, this section could be put back into operation as a siding of the Tröglitz station and on June 28, 2013 the first freight train after the flood reached the chemical and industrial park from Altenburg again. After lengthy negotiations with the parties involved, the tender for the renewal of the Elsterflutbrücke railway overpass was finally issued in mid-December 2018. Completion is scheduled for May 2020.

On December 29, 2014, BRE bought the previously leased Passau – Hauzenberg railway along with the Erlau – Obernzell branch .
