history

Regular priority share over 200 Thaler Courant of the Halberstadt-Blankenburg Railway Company from May 1, 1870

Construction of the first line of the Halberstadt-Blankenburg Railway (HBE) began on July 28, 1870, the main line was opened on March 31, 1873. On July 12, 1875, a 3 km long siding was added to the Blankenburger Hut.

Since the operation as the main line caused large operating expenses, the line was converted into a branch line in 1877 . This saved numerous railway attendants at level crossings , among other things .

business

Freight transport

Brisk freight traffic takes place through the lime works on the Rübelandbahn. Until the overhead line of the Rübelandbahn was switched off in 2005, electric locomotives had to be switched to diesel locomotives in Blankenburg - mostly to the 232 or 241 series . These locomotives then took over the further transport towards Halberstadt. To avoid a change of direction in Blankenburg, there is a bypass curve north of the train station.

passenger traffic

Passenger traffic takes place on the route every hour. After 1989, the 202 series was often used to cover passenger trains. Since 2000, the passenger trains from Halberstadt to Elbingerode have been tied through on the Rübelandbahn. Push-pull trains hauled by DB class 218 diesel locomotives were used. In 2005 Connex Sachsen Anhalt (from 2015 Transdev Sachsen-Anhalt ) took over the operation under the name Harz-Elbe-Express . Since then, mainly LINT-27 railcars have been used. On December 9, 2018, there was another operator change to Abellio Rail Mitteldeutschland , which continuously uses LINT-41 multiple units.

Others

A special feature of the route is that the Halberstadt tram tracks cross twice in Halberstadt .
