The Pidhajzi – Lviv railway is a branch line in Ukraine . It begins in Pidhajzi , runs on the left bank of the Solota Lypa river, then branches off from the Stryj – Ternopil railway in Potutory to the northern city of Lviv .

Today there is only operation between the Potutory and Bereschany stations . The single-track line is Russian broad gauge (1520 mm) and is not electrified. The operation is led by the Ukrainian railways , in particular the Lvivska Salisnyzja .

history

The line is part of the old route of the local railway Lemberg – Podhajce which was granted its license on August 19, 1905 on the basis of an ordinance of the Reichsgesetzblatt of July 15, 1903. The line was finally opened completely on October 29, 1909 in standard gauge 1,435 mm and led from Lemberg via Przemyślany (today Peremyschljany ), Brzeżany (today Bereschany ), Potutory to Podhajce (today Pidhajzi ). The following partial openings preceded this:

  • Lemberg– Kurowice on December 15, 1908, route length 35.91 kilometers
  • Kurowice– Wołków (south of Peremyschljany) on February 25, 1909, route length 34.30 kilometers
  • Wołków – Podhajce on October 29, 1909, route length 103.31 kilometers

After the end of the First World War, the line was continued to be operated by the Polish State Railways , in 1939 and 1941 after the occupation of Poland, the operation came into the hands of the Deutsche Reichsbahn , which operated the line under the timetable number 535c until the line was destroyed by the retreating Wehrmacht in 1944. After the war, most of the line was not rebuilt, only the line between Potutory and Bereschany was switched to broad gauge and continued to operate.

Today a pair of trains still runs on the route between Ternopil and Bereschany:

  • 6251/6258: Ternopil-Bereschany
  • 6257/6254: Bereschany-Ternopil
