history

The place was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1386 and was in the aristocratic republic of Poland-Lithuania until 1772 , then came to the Austrian crown land of Galicia (most recently part of the Przemyślany District Commission) and in 1918 became part of the Second Polish Republic (in the Tarnopol Voivodeship , Powiat Przemyślany , Gmina Dunajiw).

After the occupation by the Soviet Union in September 1939, the town's city rights were withdrawn. But in January 1940 it became the capital of the district of Dunajiw Rajons of the same name . The Rajon was renamed in June 1940, after the capital was moved to Pomorjany , to the east, in Pomorjany Rajon . Dunayiv has been a simple village ever since.

Between 1909 and 1944 the place had a train station, south of the town center on the Pidhajzi – Lviv railway line .
