The Plešivec – Slavošovce railway is a regional railway connection in Slovakia . It runs in the south of the Slovak Ore Mountains in the Štítnik Valley from Plešivec via Štítnik to Slavošovce .

history

The first railway in the south of the Slovak Ore Mountains was the Bánréve – Dobšiná line in 1872 , which runs in the Slaná valley. In the neighboring valleys, which had a similarly important mining industry, there was still no modern transport connection.

Local interested parties founded the Csetnekvolgyi helyi érdekú vasut részvénytársaság (Csetnektal Local Railway Company) with headquarters in Budapest for the construction of a railway in the Štítnik Valley . The company's share capital totaled 1,055,200 guilders . 3,184 ordinary shares and 7,025 priority shares at 100 guilders each were issued, plus reserve shares with a total value of 34,300 guilders.

Construction work began in the summer of 1893, with the majority of workers coming from the construction site of the recently built, neighboring Plešivec – Muráň railway . The line was opened on November 12, 1894.

After the collapse of Austria-Hungary in October 1918 and the establishment of the new state of Czechoslovakia , the line was managed by the newly established Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD).

After the First Vienna Arbitration , the predominantly Hungarian populated areas of Czechoslovakia and thus also the stretch between Plešivec (Hungarian: Pelsőc) and Kunova Teplica (Hungarian: Kuntapolca) came back to Hungary in November 1938. The operator of this section was again (until 1945) the Hungarian State Railways (MÁV). The Slovak state railway Slovenské železnice (SŽ) now operated the route as an island operation. Six pairs of passenger trains ran between Štítnik mesto and Slavošovce in the summer timetable of 1941, two of which were in privileged through traffic across Hungarian territory to and from Dobšiná . In addition, there were two cross-border pairs of MÁV passenger trains on the Pelsőc – Štítnik route.

Slavošovce station with a special train (2015)

On February 2nd, 2003 the ŽSR stopped the scheduled travel due to insufficient occupancy. The last valid annual timetable from 2002 recorded seven pairs of passenger trains that ran every two hours. The travel time between Plešivec and Slavošovce was 43 minutes.

Route description

The easy route runs along its entire length in the valley of the Štítnik brook, which is bridged a total of four times. At the end point of Slavošovce, the route describes a 180 ° bend in which the Slavošovce train station is outside the center of the village. In the continuation of the route, the connecting railway to the paper mill begins.
