The Tehran – Isfahan railway is a double-track railway line that is intended as a high-speed line to connect the Iranian capital Tehran directly with Isfahan .

It is the first high-speed rail line in the country.

Technical parameters

The line will be built in the standard gauge common in Iran and designed for 250 km / h as the permissible maximum speed . It will have a total length of 410 km and will be designed according to the Technical Specifications for Interoperability , the European standard for high-speed lines. In Mohammedijeh station it crosses the Qom – Zahedan railway line , to which it is connected via two junctions .

The line is to be equipped with ETCS Level 2 . The decision was made consciously in favor of the system in order to ensure interoperability with existing and future routes.

history

The first section of the route with a length of 144 was on 23 March 1999 between Tehran and the km Station Mohammadijeh opened. At the same time, the construction of the second section of the line, about 260 km in length, was put out to tender. It has not yet been completed. Now the section between Qom and Isfahan is to be built first. Two thirds of the substructure should be completed here. Work began in 2010. In a second phase, the northern section between Qom and Tehran is to be rebuilt. So far only preparatory work has been carried out here. Operations are scheduled to start in 2021.
