Bavarian root

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Bavarian Language Root is an award given by the Bavarian Language Association. The prize is awarded every year to personalities who consistently use Bavarian dialect in public . Only the dialects North Bavarian and Central Bavarian are taken into account, which is why the price was initially called North Bavarian-Central Bavarian Language Root .

When the Carinthian television commentator and presenter Armin Assinger was awarded the prize in 2009, but the Carinthian language together with the Tyrolean language forms the South Bavarian language, the name of the award was changed. He was awarded the prize for the conscious use of the Carinthian dialect in his presentations.

The language price is intended to counterbalance the general trend. The mathematicians Steven Strogatz and Daniel Abrams have extrapolated that one of 6,500 languages worldwide will die out every 14 days. According to this, 90% of all languages will disappear in this century alone. The reason is always the same: if two languages are in competition, the language that has a higher public reputation always survives.

The award-winning celebrities should help to raise the image of the Bavarian dialect. This is to be promoted by the multiplier effect created by the awardees.
