Rainer Maria Schießler (born October 7, 1960 in Munich ) is a German Roman Catholic pastor . Schießler is known as "one of the most famous churchmen" in Bavaria due to unconventional pastoral care and media-effective campaigns.

Life

Schießler comes from the parish of the Twelve Apostles in Munich-Laim . In 1980 he graduated from the Wittelsbacher Gymnasium in Munich . He completed a novitiate with the Capuchins in Laufen from 1980 to 1981. From 1981 to 1986 he studied Catholic theology at the University of Munich and the University of Salzburg . 1986/1987 he spent a pastoral year in the parish association Bad Kohlgrub , on June 27, 1987 he was ordained a priest in Freising . From 1987 to 1989 he was chaplain in Bad Kohlgrub, from 1989 to 1991 chaplain at the Church of St. Nikolaus in Rosenheim , from 1991 to 1993 chaplain in Munich at the church Heiligkreuz in Giesing . Since 1993 he has been pastor in St. Maximilian in Munich (installed in 1995).

From 2006 to 2012 Schießler worked every year in the Schottenhamel tent at the Munich Oktoberfest as a waitress; he donated the money he earned to a charitable cause. After a two-year break, he served again at Oktoberfest 2015 and donated his income to Christian Springer's Syria project .

From 2011 to 2020, in addition to his previous parish of St. Maximilian, he was also responsible for the Holy Spirit parish on Munich's Viktualienmarkt .

His own talk show Pastor Schießler was produced and broadcast on Bayerischer Rundfunk from December 2012 to 2015 .

With his sometimes provocative remarks, the pastor creates public attention for his concern for a lively and committed church.

The Bavarian Language Association described Pastor Schießler as a “dialect fisherman of men” and in 2016 therefore awarded him the Bavarian language root .

In 2018, the carnival society Narrhalla Erding awarded him the heron order for "... for personalities who, through" political, social, economic or intellectual achievements, make a special contribution to maintaining down-to-earth humor as well as sociability and entertainment ".
