History and architecture

inside view

The Lenne parish is one of the oldest parishes in the Sauerland region of Cologne . In 1221 a chapel in Lenne "capella in Lene" was first mentioned in a document.

The late Romanesque structure initially consisted of only two arched yokes of the nave and the choir rectangle . The groin vaults and round arches were probably built around 1200 or at the beginning of the 13th century. At the beginning of the 14th century, the original rectangular choir was expanded to include the apse . The western tower and the gallery yoke were added as a western extension to the nave in 1756 . The high altar dates from 1815 and was changed in 1887. In 1918 the Lenne parish had to hand over a bell from Milchenbach and a bell from the parish church of St. Vinzentius to be melted down for war material.

Today's church tower has four bells. The St. Vincent and St. Mary bells date from 1486. The two new bells were consecrated on August 21, 1955. The church building was restored several times in the 20th century. The last renovation of the church tower took place in 1985. A year later the choir was expanded. In 1991 the church square was redesigned.

Furnishing

The church probably received its current fittings when it was painted in baroque style in the late 17th century. During renovation work between 1961 and 1963, parts of the older paintings were made visible again and the sacristy was expanded. In addition, the church received a new organ. The vaults are decorated with symbolic trees of life with individual stars. The pulpit and the two side altars clearly show the handwriting of the carver Johann Sasse from Attendorn .
