Bakendorp (also called Badickedorp ) is a homestead that today belongs to the village of Baarland in the municipality of Borsele and is located south of Hoedekenskerke on the Zuid-Beveland peninsula in the Dutch province of Zeeland .
It is the last remnant of a village that was destroyed by the storm surge in November 1530 and sank with and with after the dike and the resulting higher water level in the Westerschelde . The last remaining traces of the medieval village disappeared in 1957 as a result of the delta plan and land consolidation .
In addition to some street names, the gravestone of Pastor Jan Lanaerts from Bakendorp, who died on April 28, 1518 and can be found today in the church of Hoedekenskerke, reminds of the village and its church.
Until the 19th century there was a ferry to Zeeuws-Vlaanderen near the former village .
