The company operates several conventional ferries that work on the principle of the displacement ship , as well as car ferries and several high-speed ferries and, among other things, some catamarans of the English type SeaCat .

more details

All ships of the company Balearia are registered in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria - probably because of the tax advantage, since the Canary Islands are not part of the customs territory of the EU .

In February 2012, the Baleària and five other transport and ferry companies were sentenced by the independent Spanish competition authority ( CNC ) to a fine of 15.9 million euros for illegal price fixing.

In 2017, two new buildings were ordered from Cantieri Navali Visentini . The ships are powered by LNG . The first ship is called Hypatia de Alejandría and has been in ferry service since February 2019. The second ship, the Marie Curie , has been in service since July 2019.
