The Balthasar-Neumann-Gymnasium in Marktheidenfeld ( Lower Franconia ) is a state, scientific-technological and linguistic high school with an all-day course and around 630 students and 60 teachers. The catchment area of the school is the Altlandkreis Marktheidenfeld. A special feature of the school is that it is one of the first all-day high schools in Bavaria. For several years now, the school has maintained an intensive exchange with other schools from all over Europe as part of the Comenius program . From 1978 to 2007 the film days of the Bavarian schools took place at the Balthasar-Neumann-Gymnasium.

history

In 1966 there were no secondary schools in the district town of Marktheidenfeld apart from the secondary school. The next high schools were in Lohr am Main , Würzburg and in Wertheim in Baden . Shortly before the regional reform in Bavaria (1971 to 1980), in which the Marktheidenfeld district was dissolved, the Marktheidenfeld State Technical College and the Marktheidenfeld State Secondary School were established in Marktheidenfeld in addition to the Balthasar-Neumann-Gymnasium . Marktheidenfeld became a school town from the district town. Classes began in September 1970 with three 5th grade departments in the district vocational school (Friedensstrasse 44) under the headmaster Werner Dorfmüller. The grammar school was founded as a mathematical and scientific grammar school. On July 1, 1972, the establishment of a modern language branch was approved and construction of the new building began in August. The grammar school was named in the same year by Hans Maier after Balthasar Neumann . On September 17, 1974, lessons for 16 classes began in the new building.

Hartmut Beck has been the headmaster since 2016. The school maintains open all-day care. During the 2019/20 school year, 600 students attended the grammar school and are taught by around 60 teachers.
