history
The village is one of the youngest places in the municipality of Žitište and the whole of Vojvodina in general. Banatsko Višnjićevo was founded after the First World War by surviving volunteers from the First World War and their families. The new settlers came first from the Lika region in Croatia , later also from Bosnia and Herzegovina . In the center of the village there is a memorial to the soldiers, partisans and civilians who died from the First World War and the Second World War .
The exact origin of the village name is not clear. There are several versions. In the first, the village name is said to be derived from the famous Serbian poet and lyricist Filip Višnjić . In the second version, the village name Banatsko Višnjićevo was created because the new settlers found a large sour cherry tree (Serbian: Višnja ) on the village grounds . According to the third version, the name should be derived from a geometrician who was the first to measure the village and whose surname was Višnjić.
religion
The population of the place belongs almost without exception to the Serbian Orthodox Church . The Serbian Orthodox Church of the Protection and Intercession of the Virgin Mary has been built in the village since 1994 . The church is a branch church of the Krajišnik parish in the Sečanj dean's office in the Banat eparchy of the Serbian Orthodox Church.
