Banatul Timișoara was a Romanian football club from Timișoara . He never played in the highest Romanian football league, Divizia A , but was in the semi-finals of the Romanian football championship.

history

Banatul Timișoara (named after the Banat region in which Timișoara is located) was founded in 1923 under the name Clubul Sportiv Banatul Timișoara ( German : Sportklub Banat ) and was the city's third football club after Chinezul Timișoara and Politehnica Timișoara . In the first few years, the club played exclusively in the regional championship of Timișoara, which he could not qualify for the finals of the Romanian football championship due to the dominance of Chinezul . It was only when Chinezul got into financial difficulties that Banatul was able to assert itself for the first time and reached the semifinals in 1929 after victories against Generala Craiova and Gloria CFR Arad - the club's greatest success. There the club was eliminated 3-0 against România Cluj . At that time, Banatul had many Romanian national players in its ranks.

In the following years had Banatul local rivals RGM Timişoara to defer them and did not belong in 1932 of the founding members of the professional league Divizia A . It was only with the founding of Divizia C in 1936 that the club took part again in the national game operations and was able to place itself in the middle of the group in the West group. When the Divizia C did not materialize in 1938, Banatul played again in the regional leagues.

After the end of the Second World War , Banatul took up the game operations in Divizia C again in 1946 under the new name Prima Banat Timișoara . A few years later the association disbanded.
