Emerich "Ciogli" Vogl (born August 12, 1905 in Temesvár , Kingdom of Hungary , Austria-Hungary , † October 29, 1971 ) was a Romanian football player and coach .

Career as a player

The middle runner began with the football game in 1921 at Chinezul Timișoara , where he ran up in the first team in 1922. With Chinezul he was five times Romanian national champion before he moved to Banatul Timișoara for a short time in 1929 . In the same year he went to Juventus Bucharest , with whom he again won the championship title in his first season and where he played until 1940. Vogl was considered a football legend in Romania and one of the best players of the 1930s .

National team

For the Romanian national soccer team , Vogl completed 29 games in which he scored two goals. He played his first international match on August 31, 1924 against Czechoslovakia , his last on May 27, 1934 against the same opponent. He took part in the first football World Cup in Uruguay in 1930 and led his country as captain to the 1934 World Cup in Italy.

Career as a trainer and consultant

After his playing career, Vogl worked from 1942 to 1949 as a football coach at Juventus Bucharest. He then moved to the Romanian Football Association and worked from 1949 to 1963 in the coaching staff of the national team. In 1963 he took a consultancy at Rapid Bucharest , which he gave up in 1967 in favor of the same task with the Romanian national team. As an advisor to Angelo Niculescu , he looked after Romania in Mexico in 1970 when they participated in the first World Cup after 32 years. Vogl was also chairman of the Romanian training college for many years.
