Ion "Michi" Mihăilescu (born July 3, 1916 in Feteşti , Ialomița district ) was a Romanian football player and coach . He denied 178 games in the highest Romanian football league, the Divizia A .
Career as a player
Mihăilescu began his career with Tricolor Venus Călărași. In 1938 he moved to Sportul Studenţesc from Bucharest, the Romanian at the time in the top division, the Divizia A , was active. On August 28, 1938 he had his first mission there, where he was also able to contribute a hit in the 7-1 against AMEF Arad . Although Sportul was not one of the top clubs of Divizia A, the team reached the cup final in the 1939/40 season , where they were defeated by Rapid Bucharest .
After the end of the Second World War Mihăilescu left Sportul and moved to local rivals CFR Bucharest . There he played for the title, but in 1949 and 1950 it was only enough for runner-up. After he moved to Locomotiva Timișoara in the summer of 1951 , he ended his career there at the end of the year.
National team
Ion Mihăilescu played 15 games for the Romanian national football team between 1940 and 1950 , but remained without a goal. He made his debut on March 31, 1940 against Yugoslavia . On May 22nd and November 29th 1949 he was not only captain of the team, but also their coach in the friendly games against Czechoslovakia and Albania .
Career as a coach
From 1960 to 1962 Mihăilescu was coach of his former club Rapid Bucharest , with whom he reached third place in the 1960/61 season and moved into the cup final . There he was defeated by the second division Arieșul Turda 1: 2. A year later he reached the final with Rapid , but lost to Steaua Bucharest 1: 5.
In the season 1964/65 was Mihăilescu head coach of Farul Constanta and led the club to relegation in the Divizia A .
