The schooner Banjaard was built in 1913 as a freighter in Hoogezand ( Netherlands ). Until 1990, the Banjaard transported freight on the Baltic Sea under the German flag . In 1992 the ship returned to the Netherlands and was converted into a top sailing schooner to be used as a sailing charter ship. The Banjaard has since been with passengers in the Baltic Sea, the IJsselmeer on the road and off the Dutch coast. In addition to renting out to groups, the program also includes sailing trips for individual bookers.
The Banjaard was built in 1913 as Emma and Willy at the Kroese shipyard in Hoogezand as a cargo ship with a steel hull for the Baltic Sea and was equipped with an auxiliary engine at the end of the 1920s. From 1930 to 1956 the ship was named Gossi . In 1948 her hull was lengthened by about 5 meters and in 1950 the machine was replaced with a stronger one and the rigging was removed. From 1956 to 1965 the ship was called Anke Grothmann . In 1965 there was a change of owner and the ship was renamed Marie Gisela and used as a coaster under the German flag by the Umland family from Neustadt. It was in use until 1990. In 1990 there was a change of owner and flag to Holland. Since 1991 the ship has been called Banjaard . Until 1992 the Banjaard was converted into a topsail schooner and from then on used as a charter ship for sailing trips (week, weekend trips and day or evening trips). In 1999 there was another change of ownership to the current owner. The ship's home port is Lemmer .
Sailing areas
The sailing areas of the Banjaard are the Baltic Sea between Germany, Denmark and Sweden in the high season. Departure ports are Kiel and Rostock . In the early and late season, the Banjaard can also be found on the IJsselmeer and the Dutch coast near the West Frisian Islands . The winter berth is Lemmer.
