Bannkreis was a band from Potsdam founded in 2017 . Four of the five founding members were also members of the commercially successful folk metal band Subway to Sally when it was founded . The band is dedicated to an acoustic style with strong folk influences, such as Subway to Sally mainly operated in the second half of the 1990s. During this time Subway to Sally also released an album called Bannkreis .

The blind multi-instrumentalist Johanna Krins and the Subway-to-Sally frontman Eric Fish met at a concert in 2012 and soon after began to make music together. Fish's band members joined in over time. Bodenski writes a large part of the lyrics.
The first commercial release was in October 2017: In the Eye of the Storm , the fourth studio album by the Schlager band Santiano , included the Bannkreis feature but I know it . The album reached number one in the German charts .
The first appearances at festivals took place in summer 2018, first at the Kieler Woche and then at the Wacken Open Air .
The first single, Lebewohl , was released on February 9, 2018 with a music video and was available for download and streaming services. The debut album Sakrament was released on March 16, 2018. The accompanying tour in Germany was canceled due to poor advance sales figures.
On October 28, 2019, the band announced the breakup on Facebook.
