Barbara Casini (born July 30, 1954 in Florence ) is an Italian jazz musician ( vocals , guitar ).

Live and act

Casini received piano lessons at an early age. Then she started playing the guitar and sang the Beatles , Rita Pavone and Mina . At the age of 15 she came into contact with bossa nova . She studied psychology at the University of Padua , but then gave up the desire to become a psychoanalyst .

Casini has been performing in Brazilian popular music and jazz since 1979, influenced by Elis Regina . While traveling to the Brazilian north-east , she discovered Luiz Gonzaga and his songs as well as Geraldo Azevedo . Back in Italy she founded the trio Outro Lado with Beppe Fornaroli and Naco , with whom she recorded an LP of the same name (since 1999 also on CD). In 1994 she founded her quartet with Stefano Bollani on piano, Raffaello Pareti on double bass and Francesco Petreni on drums, with whom she released the album Todo Amor in 1997 and performed until the early 2000s. The album Vento ( Label Bleu , 2000) was created with Enrico Rava , Stefano Bollani and the Accademia Filarmonica della Scala . Numerous other albums were made with her own band. She has also released albums with Lee Konitz , Phil Woods and Fabrizio Bosso . She also worked with Toninho Horta , Guinga and Roberto and Eduardo Taufic. She can also be heard on albums by Massimo Colombo , Gerardo Frisina, Alessandro Galati and Aldevis Tibaldi.
