Barbara Gilbert

Barbara Gilbert (born before 1978 in the USA ) is an American opera singer ( soprano ).

Life

Gilbert graduated from the University of Rochester in 1978 . 1980 followed master's degree and "Performers Certificate", which was followed by a doctoral degree at Indiana University in Bloomington with Margaret Harshaw . She perfected her studies after teaching work and first stage experiences in the Basel Opera Studio . First engagements in Switzerland ( Basel , Biel , Bern ) followed. In 1991 she moved from Switzerland to Saarland to accept an engagement at the Saarland State Theater in Saarbrücken , where she was primarily used in roles in the lyrical repertoire and later increasingly in roles in the youthful-dramatic repertoire. In 2003 she was also appointed chamber singer in Saarland.

Guest performances have taken her to various stages, primarily in the German-speaking area. In addition to her operatic career, Barbara Gilbert also maintains the lied and concert repertoire.

She has been working as a freelancer since the 2006/2007 season. She is married to the actor and director Kurt-Josef Schildknecht .
