Barbara Meyer-Gluche (born May 21, 1984 ) is a German politician ( Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen ) and has been Mayor of Saarbrücken since February 3, 2020 . She is also General Secretary of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen Saarland and was the top candidate for the state election in 2017 .

Life

Barbara Meyer-Gluche studied political science and economics at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . Until 2017 she was a research assistant in the parliamentary group of the Greens in the Saarland state parliament . After the Greens left the state parliament, she worked as a department head in the Saarland Ministry of Finance.

Since February 2020, she has been Ralf Latz's full-time mayor as well as the city’s finance department and thus Deputy Mayor Uwe Conradt .

Meyer-Gluche was a direct candidate for the Greens in the Saarbrücken constituency for the 2013 federal election and received 5.3 percent of the vote. She has been the district chairman of the Greens in the Saarbrücken regional association since 2014 and ran together with Hubert Ulrich as the top candidate for the state election in 2017 . Since the Greens failed with a result of 4.0 percent at the five percent hurdle, they did not move into the Saarland state parliament. In 2018 she was elected Secretary General of her national association.

In 2019 she ran for the mayor's office in Saarbrücken and received 14.4 percent of the votes, but did not make it into the runoff election. In November 2019, she was elected the new mayor and finance deputy of the state capital with 36 out of 63 votes, two votes more than the ruling Jamaica coalition has seats on the city council. She resigned from her city council mandate in the course of her election.
