Barbara Petritsch (born February 24, 1945 in Schladming ) is an Austrian actress .

She received her acting training at the Academy for Music and Performing Arts in Graz. She received her first engagement in the 1968/69 season at the Stadttheater Klagenfurt . She then worked at the Hildesheim City Theater (1969/70), the Nuremberg Municipal Theaters (1970–72), the Kassel State Theater, the Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg, the Volkstheater Vienna and the Styrian Autumn in Graz. 1974 to 1976 and then again in 1982 she performed at the Städtische Bühnen Frankfurt , 1976 to 1978 and 1980 to 1983 at the Münchner Kammerspiele . From 1978 to 1980 she was engaged at the Bremen theater .

Since 1980 she has appeared as a freelance actress at numerous theaters, including 1981 at the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus , 1983 at the Volksbühne Berlin , 1984 at the Schlossparktheater , 1984 at the Salzburg Festival and 1985 at the Bavarian State Theater in Munich.

In 1987 she worked at the Schauspielhaus Bochum , in 1989 at the Staatliche Schauspielbühne Berlin. She has been part of the ensemble at the Schauspiel Köln since the early 1990s , and has been a member of the ensemble at the Burgtheater since September 1999 .

Barbara Petritsch embodied many important female theater figures during her career. She took on title roles in 1972 in Miss Julie von August Strindberg , 1974 in Lysistrate and Nato from Rolf Hochhuth , 1977 in Doña Rosita remains single from Federico García Lorca , 1978 in Maria Stuart by Friedrich Schiller , 1981/82 in Medea von Euripides , 1987 in Antonius and Cleopatra by Shakespeare and 1996 in Riefenstahl (by and with Hans Kresnik ). Since 1999 she has been engaged at the Burgtheater Vienna .

In 2016 she appeared as Prospero in Der Sturm at the Schauspielhaus Graz .
