Barbara Schwarz (born December 8, 1959 in Saalfelden am Steinernen Meer , Land Salzburg ) is a former Austrian politician ( ÖVP ). From 2011 to 2018 she was Regional Minister in the Lower Austrian provincial government Pröll V , Pröll VI and Mikl-Leitner I .

After attending primary school and AHS in Krems until 1978, Barbara Schwarz studied business administration at the Vienna University of Economics until 1983. She then worked from 1984 to 1987 at IBM Austria in Vienna and from 1995 to 2011 at a national tax consultancy and auditing firm. Barbara Schwarz has two daughters and lives in Dürnstein.

On July 2, 2018, she succeeded Franz Delapina as managing director of the Lower Austrian Research and Education Company (NFB).

In 1995 Barbara Schwarz was elected to the city council of Dürnstein . In 2003 she took over the office of Vice Mayor. From 2004 to 2011 she was mayor of the municipality of Dürnstein.

On April 28, 2011, she was appointed regional councilor in the Lower Austrian regional government. Her portfolios included education, social affairs, family and European affairs. After the state elections in Lower Austria in 2018 , Schwarz left the Lower Austrian state government . Christiane Teschl-Hofmeister succeeded her as regional councilor .
