The Barbara Chapel is the Roman Catholic chapel in the Frauenkron district of the Dahlem community in the Euskirchen district (North Rhine-Westphalia).

The church belongs to the parish of St. Brictius Berk and is registered as a monument under number 71 in the list of architectural monuments in Dahlem (Northern Eifel) .

history

Today's chapel goes back to a monastery church of a Cistercian monastery , which was built around 1253 in Frauenkron. This nunnery was closed in the 14th century. In the following centuries the monastery buildings completely disappeared except for the chapel.

Around 1686 the chapel was probably rebuilt in the Baroque style as a hall church. It is not known whether individual parts of the wall from the old monastery church have been preserved. In 1931 the church was renovated and the roof turret was built. In 1944 the church was badly damaged in the Second World War . In 1952 the chapel was restored and expanded to the east. The plans for this come from the Dahlem architect Hans Müller. In 1959, a sacristy was installed in the basement of the building on the hillside .

Furnishing

In the interior there is a baroque high altar from the 17th century. Three figures of saints adorn it. On the left you can see John the Baptist , in the middle a figure of Our Lady and on the right St. Barbara of Nicomedia . There are also two other saints in the chapel, which depict St. Catherine of Alexandria and St. Representing Lucia of Syracuse . All figures were created around 1990 by the South Tyrolean sculptor's workshop Senoner from Selva in Val Gardena as replicas for figures stolen in 1989 from the 17th century.
